Starting A Travel Journal

The Journey Begins

I’ve lived within Montana my entire life and have done, what I feel is, very little adventuring. Even within these borders. At one point in my life, I lived right down the road from Yellowstone National Park for almost 8 years and only once traveled there to see Old Faithful. At another point in my life, I bought a tent with a thought to try camping and after almost 7 years it’s still never been opened and is stored on a dark dusty shelf somewhere.

If I have wandered outside Montana, it was mostly for the purpose of work or military training. Which to be fair my greatest adventure was from a work trip in which I got to explore the island of Hawaii and that is a travel high that is yet to be beat.

But despite this mostly hobbitish life I have lived so far there has been this voice deep down calling me, saying that there is so much more out there. There are things to be seen and adventures to be had. It just has not felt possible to answer though. So, for the most part this desire has been pushed down and forgotten about over the years.

This last year though my marriage of almost 17 years ended and I have begun a journey of self-rediscovery. I started therapy and have been working on building my career so I can stand on my own feet in a life I will love. I have been faced with the question of “who am I” and “what do I want out of life now”. With this, the voice of adventure has come screaming back to the front of the line, making its presence known. I have met it with excitement and hesitation. I want to get caught up in it, but I really don’t “know” how to travel or have a life and funds that allow me to do too much, at least not yet. But I have started answering the call this year, when and where I can. To document these new adventures I started a travel journal. Something that I can collect memories and pieces of my adventures in.

So, I look forward to exploring this this long dormant side of myself as I ease my way into what I hope to be a new life of travel and adventures.
